Environment Health and Safety Officer

 

Our client, a Shannon-based aviation company in County Clare, is in search of an experienced EHS Officer. This role is responsible for ensuring the company is conforming to best practice Environmental, Health and Safety issues and is in compliance with legislative requirements. This involves developing policies & procedures, conducting audits, providing relevant training, liaising with external authorities and detailed reporting.

The EHS Officer must foster close working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to engender a heightened awareness of EHS issues amongst employees, contractors and management.

Responsibilities

General

  • Managing all aspects of company's compliance in line with statutory regulations.
  • Monitoring all current and emerging EHS regulations and developing strategies/programs to ensure compliance.
  • Developing and maintaining the company's EHS management systems and internal policies & procedures in accordance with standards such as ISO14001.
  • Optimise and develop programs to reduce environmental, health and safety risks.
  • Developing an in depth understanding of technical processes and methods used throughout company operations.
  • Maintaining knowledge of the waste industry best practice and other standards in health and safety domains.
  • Build an in-depth understanding of EHS operational practices and implement new systems and processes in an accurate, timely and efficient way.
  • Evaluation of processes, systems and equipment for EHS impacts.
  • Developing with site management, measures including, risk assessments and health & safety plans to assure personnel safety on site.
  • Liaising with external authorities such as EPA, HAS, Local Authorities on EHS related matters and site visits, audits, accident investigations etc.
  • Represent the Company during outside Agency Audits/Inspections.

H&S General

  • Implementing and updating Health & Safety plans and procedures for the group as required.
  • Update and maintain Health and Safety procedures and a comprehensive Safety Statement for the Group in compliance with Regulatory requirement.
  • Carrying out risk assessments and considering how risks could be reduced.
  • Advising Managers on Health & Safety initiatives relevant to their department.
  • Keeping up to date with new legislation and maintaining a working knowledge of all Health and Safety Authority (HSA) legislation and any developments that affect the industry.
  • Improve the health and safety culture, through training and awareness.

Environmental General

  • Managing Environmental issues within the group.
  • Conduct Environmental testing and complete returns to ensure the Group complies with Environment regulations and Environmental permits.
  • Environmental monitoring and management.
  • Energy management and energy saving initiative.
  • Water management and conservation.
  • Waste management and minimisation.
  • Promote and develop energy, water and resource conversation programs.
  • Monitoring of the hangar performance and IPPC sampling, monitoring of all environmental mitigation measures.

Accidents/Incidents

  • Actively manage any safety incidents to minimise company exposure.
  • Manage accident/ incident investigations and ensure all accidents/incidents are reported in an appropriate manner.
  • Maintaining records of accidents and incidents and producing statistics for senior management.

Audits

  • Lead and manage EHS inspections, surveys and audits.
  • Develop and implement a safety audit plan to attain ISO14001 & 18001 standards.
  • Managing EHS programs concerning Non-conformance/Corrective Action (CAPA), internal systems audits, environmental monitoring.
  • Support and assist Quality Manager with Paint Organisation and Part 145 Audits/Non-conformance follow up.

Fire & Emergency

  • Ensuring adequate evacuation and response arrangements are in place for fire and emergency situations.
  • Ensure emergency and contingency planning operates in a systematic manner.

Training

  • Identifying training needs and developing training programs on Environmental, Health & Safety control procedures for all employees.
  • Design and deliver Environmental and Health & Safety Training and ensure prompt and systematic induction, training and refresher training of all staff.
  • Delivering safety briefings as required.
  • Design and deliver Human Factors initial and recurrent training.
  • Maintaining accurate records of training and a training matrix data base.

Records/Reporting

  • Ensure that an effective and appropriate EHS management system is maintained and that performance of the system, EHS goals and KPIs are tracked and reported to management.
  • Preparation of EHS reports/metrics as required, particularly for submission to regulatory authorities.
  • Maintaining all safety records.
  • Maintaining a complete register of method statements and safety risk assessments relating to all aspects of jobs.
  • Management and recording of waste recycling and disposal procedures.
  • Assisting with the development and implementation of continuous improvement objectives and initiatives.
  • Any other reasonable duties as required by the company Directors.

Requirements:

  • Third level qualification in relevant discipline.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience of report writing and investigations.
  • Proven audit, evaluation and investigative skills.
  • Flexibility and availability for travel as required.
