Horticultural Manager:
The position of the Horticultural Manager presents an exciting opportunity for an individual interested in playing a significant role within the tourism sector. The successful applicant will report to the Head of Operations and will work closely with senior management to develop iconic visitor attractions into world-class attractions.
The Horticultural Manager will oversee the overall presentation of all visitor attraction sites, including ongoing maintenance and development, to create an enjoyable, stunning, and safe environment for all visitors.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
- Leading and managing a team of gardeners to maintain high standards across all garden areas.
- Overseeing plantings, propagation, and cultivation in the gardens.
- Planning and designing garden layouts for functionality and attractiveness.
- Developing and implementing detailed maintenance plans.
- Collaborating with the Green team on long-term sustainability initiatives.
- Managing inventory and ensuring equipment is well-maintained.
- Keeping records of garden work and schedules.
- Maintaining garden structures and facilities.
- Conducting regular garden tours and participating in offsite events.
- Budget planning and management for the gardens.
- Establishing and maintaining employee relations.
- Supervising and training garden staff.
- Assisting in recruitment and retention efforts.
- Executing specific projects as assigned.
- Supporting operational best practices and outreach activities.
Requirements/ Essentials Skills and Attributes:
- Proven track record in operational/horticulture with at least 3 years of management experience.
- Ideally possesses a Diploma/Degree at Hetac Level 7 in a similar or related discipline in Horticulture; Health & Safety qualification is advantageous.
- Good knowledge of a Health & Safety System.
- Flexibility and a strong problem-solving approach to issues.
- Experience in managing people in a small to medium-sized enterprise.
- Ability to demonstrate a high level of teamwork and motivation skills.
- Proven organizational skills and experience in multitasking.
- A commitment to excellence, continual innovation, and world-class service delivery.
- Ability to focus attention on details.
- Ability to work in inclement weather.
- Proficient in the operation of plant and equipment, including driving vehicles.
- Ability to work in or near water and traveling to work as a passenger on a small ferry boat.
- Ability to perform job functions to standards under pressure.
- Ability to ensure the security and confidentiality of visitor and Company information.
