The position of Assistant Head of Operations is an exciting opportunity for an individual interested in playing a significant role within the tourism sector.
The successful applicant will report to the Head of Operations and work closely with the Senior Management and Business Unit Managers.
As Assistant Head of Operations you will have responsibility for providing and supporting the Head of Operations in the implementation, administration and reporting of the Health and Safety Management Systems and perform the role of Health & Safety Officer for the organisation.
The position will oversee, develop, and implement a facility management programme to cover scheduled, preventive and reactive maintenance.
This position oversees, supports and in the absence of the Head of Operations directs all aspects of the Operations of the sites and will have a focus on health & safety, facility management and service delivery.
Priority areas for the Assistant Head of Operations are:

To assist in the operational /maintenance, and health & safety aspects of the site, it’s employees and visitors.

In conjunction with the Head of Operations ensure that the key objectives within health & safety and maintenance of the organisation are met by managing workloads that maximises the use of resources.

Providing line management to the maintenance team & health and safety assistant and work closely with the Operations Management Team.

Ensuring a safe world class visitor experience is provided and help to embed a culture of a great place to work through trust, respect and safety.
The main duties of the Assistant Head of Operations include:
- Develop and implement a facility management program covering scheduled, preventative, and reactive maintenance.
- Collaborate with the procurement department within shared services to manage maintenance contracts across sites.
- Work closely with the Project Manager to supervise facility refurbishments and renovations as needed.
- Monitor facility performance regarding energy usage, water consumption, and waste management, implementing processes for improvement.
- Address facility and equipment breakdowns, alarms, and system failures promptly.
- Resolve maintenance issues raised by the Company, ensuring the highest standards of general maintenance on site.
- Coordinate the operation and maintenance of fire alarm and safety systems as necessary.
- Implement, administer, and report on health and safety management systems, serving as the organization's Health & Safety Officer.
- Coordinate all site maintenance activities, including contractor engagement.
- Liaise daily with operational management on all facilities and health & safety matters.
- Participate as a member of the organization's Green Team, assisting in the implementation of agreed-upon actions.
- Maintain a visible presence and involvement across various sites and in local business and social communities as appropriate.
- Foster effective employee relations through open communication with all employees.
- Undertake specific projects as assigned from time to time.
- Support and collaborate with the Head of Operations and other teams to ensure best practices throughout all operations at Clare Tourism Visitor attraction sites.
- Participate in outreach activities to support Clare County Council-associated tourist attractions and services as required.
- Serve as a deputy for the Head of Operations as necessary.
Requirements/Essential Skills and Attributes:

Proven track record in operational / H & S management with at least 3 years management experience

Candidate will ideally have a Diploma / Degree in a similar or related discipline in tourism / visitor management. H & S qualification an advantage.

Experience in workforce management systems packages.

Experience in facilities management, maintenance and operations.

Good knowledge of a Building Management System.

Good knowledge of a Health & Safety System.

Flexibility and a strong problem-solving approach to issues.

Experience of managing people in a small to medium size enterprise.

Ability to demonstrate a high level of teamwork & motivation skills.
