eFlexes are currently assisting with the recruitment of a Sustainable Destination Development Officer for our Clare based Client.
This a rare and exciting opportunity for an individual interested in playing a significant role within the Tourism sector in the Clare region.
The successful applicant will provide support to the UNESCO Global Geopark, working closely with senior Management within the organisation.

Liaise on the destination certification process with Earthcheck; managing the Green Team meetings and communications, liaising with tourism networks and community groups on sustainable indicators and actions, collection of data, promotion of the sustainable journey, presentation of results, providing content for Visit Clare and Failte Ireland.

Engage with all tourism stakeholders and provide training and/or focus groups on aspects of sustainability within the destination.

Co-ordinate the third-party certification process for tourism attractions and sites facilitating their transition towards 2030 and 2050 climate targets.

Analysing and reporting on the data and results of the destination certification, the tourism attractions certification and the Geopark Code of Practice (ensuring GDPR compliance).

Co-ordinate collaboration between all departments within the organisation on relevant data collection and reporting, managing the sustainable tourism data bank and dashboard, and cross promoting the Climate Action Plan and UN SDG’s with Environment section.

Co-ordinate the collaborate with Sligo ATU and UNWTO Observatory on research, data collection and analysis, surveys etc.

Raise internal and public awareness of EU Directives and Global Agreements on legal commitments that impact tourism, linking the 2030 and 2050 climate targets, and other policy initiatives within the EU green deal and upcoming Green Claims Directive.

Liaise with the UNESCO Global Geopark Team, Climate Action Team, and the Environmental, Rural Development and Planning (Heritage & Biodiversity) Departments to ensure the alignment of long-term strategies and targets, in particular the County Development Plan.

Engage with relevant EU, national and regional funding programmes to promote training, grant aid, policy development and PR in Sustainable Tourism.

Co-ordinate PR and marketing material on our sustainable journey.

Present our sustainable journey to other destinations; potential to provide paid consultancy advice to other counties and destinations within Ireland and the EU.

Prepare and present regular reports and status updates.

Manage the annual budgets and ensure compliance with spending policy and procedures are

adhered to including public procurement regulations.

Represent the organisation on official engagements and events as required.

A recognised postgraduate qualification in Tourism or equivalent professional qualification in addition to experience in tourism destination development.

Knowledge of national and international tourism legislation and policies.

Experience in data collection, analytics, and visualisation.

Proven presentation and reporting, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.

Experience in third party certification processes and/or tourism indicator systems and surveys.

Familiar with the GSTC and its network.

Experience in working effectively as part of a multi sectoral team.

The successful candidate is required to have a current full class B drivers’ licence and access to own car.
